Brendan Schaub's Surprising Statement On Sean O'Malley's UFC 292 Win

Schaub discusses the UFC's plan coming to fruition.

Brendan Schaub has weighed in on Sean O'Malley's big win at UFC 292 and he's made a rather surprising statement.

O'Malley challenged Aljamain Sterling for the UFC Bantamweight Championship on August 19. Sterling was the betting favorite going into the bout, but O'Malley wasn't fazed. He scored a second-round TKO victory to walk out of TD Garden as the new 135-pound titleholder.

Some have criticized the UFC for O'Malley's path to the bantamweight title. The company rushed Alajmain Sterling to return to the Octagon despite his initial hesitancy due to a grueling five-round war with Henry Cejudo back in May.

During a recent episode of "The Schaub Show," Brendan Schaub surprisingly defended UFC President Dana White from those saying O'Malley received special treatment from the UFC. Schaub chalks up the UFC's strategy as simply being good business.

"Again, you guys are gonna call it Dana White privilege, I don't call it that," Schaub said. "I call it good business. Think about this, and this isn't a knock on 'Sugar,' this isn't making an excuse for Aljo, Aljo fought [three] months ago against Henry Cejudo, said he didn't want to fight this soon. He fought [three] months later. You heard Rogan allude to it and go, 'He's great at cutting weight.' He's a big ass bantamweight. Those weight cuts are a beast for him. So, remember he wanted more time 'cause he said, 'I'm not at 100 percent.' UFC forced him to take this fight in [three] months."

"'Sugar' had a year off, knew he was gonna fight Aljo, had a year to work on his takedown defense and prepare for Aljo. Again, it's not Dana White privilege. It's the UFC going, 'This guy's the next thing, what can we do for him?' That's what they're doing there, so, the odds will not stack towards Aljo to thrive."
