Canelo Alvarez and Jermell Charlo will indeed collide in quite a twist.

Canelo recently inked a multifight deal with Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) after finishing his obligations with Matchroom Boxing. Canelo would've stayed with promoter Eddie Hearn for at least one more fight, but the Matchroom head honcho said a Dmitry Bivol rematch just wasn't feasible given the demands of both champions.

When Canelo's PBC deal was announced, many were salivating at the thought of the Mexican superstar fighting the likes of Jermall Charlo and David Benavidez. The first stop on the PBC tour for Canelo was supposed be against Jermall Charlo, but things are far different than what was reported.

Initially, it was believed that Canelo would put his undisputed super middleweight gold on the line against the WBC middleweight titleholder Charlo on September 16. The date made sense, as it would've fallen on Mexican Independence Day. Well, Canelo vs. Charlo has been made official, but the date is now September 30, and now it'll be Jermell Charlo stepping up.

No reason has been given for the change in date. As for the change in opponent, Chris Mannix reports that Jermall Charlo is dealing with personal issues.

When it comes to the date change, fight fans might assume it has something to do with the UFC running an event on September 16. That card will also celebrate the holiday, as UFC Women's Flyweight Champion Alexa Grasso will put her title on the line against Valentina Shevchenko in a rematch.
