BREAKING: WWE Reportedly Scoops Up Major Free Agent Formerly Of NJPW
A big-time superstar on WWE's radar has ended free agency.
It's a fun time to be a wrestling fan with WrestleMania season in full gear, and the historic final match in the illustrious career of Sting at AEW Revolution this Sunday. It's also a great time if you're a notable free agent in the wrestling industry. With WWE and AEW in hot pursuit of the right talent, it leaves the desirable performers in a good position.
Now, the free agency market has one less talent.
Backstage WWE Worker Surprisingly Leaves Company After Recent TV Taping
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has reported that former multiple-time IWGP Tag Team Champion Tama Tonga is WWE-bound. Tama had the final match of his near 14-year run with NJPW this past Saturday. The former NEVER Openweight Champion had been in talks with WWE last year, but further raised his stock with the most impressive singles showing of his career in 2023.
Tama Tonga was a pivotal part of the Bullet Club faction, along with his brother Tanga Loa, before being ousted from the stable in 2022. With his brother, Tama became a seven-time IWGP Tag Team Champion. Tama also had four reigns with the NEVER 6-Man Tag Team Championship.
As a singles competitor, Tonga had great success late in his NJPW run. He became a four-time NEVER Openweight Champion and proved himself outside of the tag division. Time will tell what WWE has in store for Tama Tonga, but it seems now is the perfect time for him to make some waves in the company.
