Garry Tonon handed Shamil Gasanov the first loss of his MMA career with an absolutely brutal kneebar just before the halfway mark of their fight at ONE Fight Night 12.

The two men met in the card's co-main event in Bangkok, Thailand as two of the top 155-pound fighters on the ONE Championship roster. Tonon entered the night having rebounded from his first career loss by submitting Johnny Nuñez earlier this year, while Gasanov was also coming off a submission win in his promotional debut last October.

Things started poorly for Tonon when he ate some big knees early in the fight, but after he began having more success in the grappling exchanges it eventually led to “The Lion Killer” securing a tight kneebar in the second round.

The brutal submission forced a shout from Gasanov as he rolled to his stomach and frantically tapped, which left Tonon to celebrate arguably the most impressive win of his MMA career against an opponent that was previously unbeaten in 13 pro fights.

It wasn’t long too long ago that the decorated grappler was also an undefeated MMA fighter like Gasanov, however a matchup with ONE Championship's 155-pound champion Thanh Le ended with Tonon being stopped by strikes inside the first minute.

Le has since lost his title to Kai Tang, and the two were expected to meet at ONE Fight Night 12 before Tang withdrew due to a knee injury. Following his win over Gasanov, Tonon made it clear that he has his sights set on challenging whichever fighter is holding the ONE Championship title.
