There was a puzzling rumor centered around on a former member of The Bloodline that has now been debunked.

It's no secret that WWE's bread and butter in terms of storytelling has been about The Bloodline faction. With the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at the helm, he has ordered the likes of his "Special Counsel" Paul Heyman, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Solo Sikoa, and even Sami Zayn at one point.

With two of those names gone from the stable, it has left "The Tribal Chief" vulnerable. In the case of Jey Uso, he was sent to Monday Night Raw for a fresh start, but his hopes for a singles title were dashed by his brother, Jimmy.

There was one rumor on Jey's failed bid at holding singles gold that didn't appear to make much sense, and now we know why.

WrestleVotes had reported sources were "under the impression" that Jey Uso was actually scheduled to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship from GUNTHER on the February 19th episode of Monday Night Raw before the idea was nixed late. At the time, the report was head-scratching, as GUNTHER's record-setting reign being broken on an episode of Raw less than two months before WrestleMania 40 didn't make much sense.

That isn't a knock on WrestleVotes, a proven and trusted reporter for WWE news. Things simply didn't add up.

Fightful Select now reports that while a couple of people were indeed told that Jey would be winning the IC title, that actually wasn't the plan at all. GUNTHER was always scheduled to retain the gold.

Fans have been seeing more stories of WWE reportedly "leaking" match plans that don't actually happen to keep the element of surprise for its shows. This has been happening more since Paul "Triple H" Levesque took over as the Chief Content Officer.
