Fans have been eagerly waiting for an update on Alex Pereira’s return, and the UFC light heavyweight champion claims that he’s finally received news regarding his next matchup.

UFC 297: Dricus Du Plessis Explains Why He Lost Interest In Fighting Israel Adesanya

Pereira made his light heavyweight debut in 2023 with a split-decision win over Jan Blachowicz, before stopping Jiri Prochazka to win the title at UFC 295.

Fans have been patiently waiting to see who "Poatan" will defend his new belt against first, and now Pereira has provided a huge update via Instagram on January 16:

“There I was, reflecting, thinking, a lot of good things happening, aren't there? I’m there, then I got the message from my manager. He stated that everything is already sorted for my next fight. Where, with whom? Unfortunately, I can’t tell you guys. But soon, you will know.” - Pereira said on Instagram.

The light heavyweight champion’s message will undoubtedly send fans into a frenzy of speculation regarding who the unnamed opponent is, especially given that a return timeline for former champion Jamahal Hill is still unclear.

BREAKING: UFC 298 Fight Undergoes Major Change Due to Injury

One prominent candidate for Pereira’s first title defense is Magomed Ankalaev, who currently sits at #3 in the light heavyweight rankings and is coming off a knockout win over Johnny Walker at a UFC Vegas 84.

“Poatan” has already downplayed the idea of a matchup with Ankalaev in favor of a fight against Hill, and until the Brazilian shares more information, there will likely be rampant discussion around the chances of Pereira fighting at UFC 300 in April.
