Amen Thompson Injury Update Following Rockets-Trail Blazers Game
On Friday evening, the Houston Rockets defeated the Portland Trail Blazers by a score of 100-99 at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Jabari Smith Jr. nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Rockets the victory.
That said, rookie Amen Thompson (who was the fourth pick in the 2023 NBA Draft) got injured during the game and did not return.
After the game, ESPN's Tim MacMahon reported an update on Thomson.
Via MacMahon: "No. 4 overall pick Amen Thompson sprained his ankle, a Rockets source told ESPN. Not considered serious. He’ll speak to the media soon."
Thompson finished the victory with 16 points, four rebounds, five assists, three steals and four blocks while shooting 6/13 from the field in 28 minutes of playing time.
MacMahon also provided what Thompson said about the injury when he met with the media following the game.
Via MacMahon: "Amen Thompson: “It’s pretty sore.” He says it’s up to the Rockets’ staff if he returns in the summer league."
Since Thompson was a top-five pick, it would make sense for the Rockets to be extremely cautious with the 20-year-old.
The Rockets have been in rebuilding mode over each of the previous three seasons and are coming off a year where they were tied with the San Antonio Spurs for the second-worst record in the NBA (22-60).
That said, they have been one of the most active teams in 2023 free agency.
The team has acquired key players such as Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks.
