Max Verstappen won the Canadian Grand Prix further extending his lead in the drivers' championship.

Joining the Dutch driver on the podium was Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton who finished in second and third, respectively.

Logan Sargeant was the first car to run into trouble as he was instructed by the Williams team to stop the car immediately, ending his race. Luckily, the American driver could come to a stop off the racing line, so it only required a virtual safety car to be put on the session.

George Russell ran into trouble when he collided with the wall after the chicane. A safety car was put on the session whilst the debris was cleared but surprisingly the British driver managed to get back to the pits where the team replaced the front wing so was able to resume with the race.

Lando Norris was handed a five-second penalty for driving unnecessarily slowly under the safety car. It is thought this was due to the driver trying to build a bit of a gap so that the McLaren team could do a double stack pit stop.

On lap 55, Russell was forced to retire from the race after a brake duct issue caused by his earlier crash.
