After a difficult Saturday, Charles Leclerc has praised his Ferrari team for making the right choices during the Canadian Grand Prix.

The Monegasque driver was furious after the qualifying session yesterday when he was eliminated during Q2. Tyre choices were imperative during the session as the track was switching between wet and dry, Leclerc advised the team that he should be on slick tyres but they instructed him to stay out. This ultimately led to the driver missing the optimum window to get a competitive fast lap in to get through to Q3.

Leclerc started from tenth on the grid for the race in Montreal today and managed to finish in fourth position. During his post race interview with Sky Sports, the Ferrari driver reflected on the performance:

"Considering where we were starting from, it was the best we could’ve done today. We did a good job. Most happy that the good feeling I had on Friday in the race sims was confirmed today.

"On any of the compounds we were competitive and the feeling was good. Some positives to take from this race weekend.

Despite a good comeback, Leclerc is still pushing for more and is keen to achieve a podium as soon as possible. He continued:

"Overall performance [where we need to gain]. At the start of the season, it was very difficult to understand the consistency, we would go from the mediums which was okay, to the softs and the car would fall apart.

"It seems like we went in a different direction in terms of setup and I felt more at ease."

Leclerc went on to comment on the strategy calls from the Maranello-based squad:

"I had a DRS train with Lando just in front. I felt quicker but he had the DRS to I couldn’t overtake. The right choice to do the opposite of Lando."
