While the piece of news would force any F1 fan to know about this matter, let me tell you that Lewis Hamilton isn't going anywhere currently. It was only until former F1 team owner Peter Windsor was asked when he suggested the seven-time world champion's replacement 'after he has chosen to retire from the sport.'

Windsor suggested the name of Charles Leclerc as a suitable candidate to replace Hamilton at Mercedes when a fan on his YouTube live stream event asked him to select the best Hamilton replacement among the two McLaren drivers.

Despite the McLaren choice, Windsor suggested the Ferrari driver was a better match with Russell as he gave his reasons. He said:

“Two Brits, Lando [Norris] and George [Russell], probably a few fireworks going on there.

“Oscar [Piastri], he’s very good isn’t he? And I suppose after a while Lando will have got used to having Oscar in the other car and how quick he is.

“Or Charles [Leclerc]. I think Charles is such an interesting driver, such an interesting time with his career, because he’s very good, but he’s not looking very good.

"And he’s obviously got issues going on in his head to do with all the stuff that comes with the dramas at Ferrari and everywhere else, and for me, the challenge would be to get the best from Charles and I would love to do that.

"So in answer to your question, boring answer it probably is, but I would go for Charles actually, I think just because I think it would be an interesting challenge.”

Ferrari

Last year, Leclerc mounted a pretty strong challenge to Verstappen but as Windsor said, maybe the "dramas at Ferrari" might be pulling him down from bringing his best out. By saying so indirectly, he has sent Leclerc a strong message that maybe, Mercedes would be a better place for him to work at than Ferrari. Interesting times!
