F1 News: Lando Norris Jokes With McLaren After Incredible British GP Performance - "They're Still Beginners"

Lando Norris reflects on his second-place podium at the British Grand Prix.

McLaren's Lando Norris put on a phenomenal display during the British Grand Prix, securing a podium finish and confirming his team's upward trajectory.

In a stunning manoeuvre at the start, Norris overtook Max Verstappen, holding the lead for several initial laps. The latter part of the race saw an intense face-off with Lewis Hamilton although Norris was able to hold the seven-time champion off to secure the second position.

Post-race, Norris shared his excitement, stating:

"Pretty insane. Thanks to the whole team. I did what I could, I took the fight to Max for as long as possible. It's amazing. The whole in lap, I was trying to wave to everyone. Piastri should've been P3 without the safety car."

The entrance of the safety car proved to be game-changing, triggering a flurry of tyre changes. Unlike Hamilton and Verstappen, who opted for soft tyres, Norris' McLaren was fitted with hard tyres. Despite an early performance gap, Norris valiantly held off his fellow British driver.

Norris, commenting on the choice of hard tyres, humorously remarked:

"They put me on the hard tyres, I don't know why. They're still beginners in some things.

"It was an amazing fight with Lewis to hold him off. They just wanted to give me more of a test, probably Zak [Brown] called the shots on that one! I wanted the softs, I felt like it made a bit more sense. But I don't care."

Despite the unexpected tyre decision, Norris' exceptional performance shone through.

Norris' teammate Oscar Piastri crossed the line in fourth position leaving the McLaren team with their best performance of the year and meant they moved ahead of Alpine in the constructors' standings.
