F1 News: Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes Contract Set To Break Michael Schumacher Record

Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes contract is set to break another record currently held by Michael Schumacher.

As Mercedes has confirmed a two-year contract extension for seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, the British driver is now on the cusp of overshadowing Michael Schumacher’s long-standing record for uninterrupted seasons with a singular Formula 1 team.

Hamilton’s contract extension ensures he will drive for the Brackley-based squad until the end of the 2025 season, marking 13 consecutive years with the team.

This long-term association will not only surpass Schumacher's 11-year spell with Ferrari between 1996 and 2006 but also underlines Hamilton's harmonious partnership with George Russell, his current teammate, who will also be driving with the team until the end of 2025. While much of the spotlight is on Hamilton's chase for an eighth championship title, this record accentuates his loyalty to Mercedes.

Joining Mercedes in 2013, Hamilton capitalised on the hybrid era's commencement in 2014, accumulating six of his seven world titles. He now has a staggering 103 race victories, 104 pole positions and joint-most world championships with F1 legend Schumacher.

Hamilton's relationship with Mercedes goes beyond the track as they jointly started the Accelerate 25 programme which aims to increase inclusivity and diversity in sport, which is something the British driver is extremely passionate about.

Schumacher, now trailing Hamilton in consecutive team years, cemented his F1 icon status during his time with Ferrari. He amassed 72 race wins out of his total 91 with the Italian team. After an initial retirement in 2006, Schumacher’s return to F1 with Mercedes in 2010 couldn’t replicate his Ferrari success.

Despite some rumours of Hamilton considering a team move, the eventual confirmation of the contract extension did not come as a surprise to the F1 community.
