Commenting on Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari in 2025, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen stated that he would not rule out the possibility of making a similar switch to the Maranello outfit in the future. Verstappen's current contract with Red Bull expires at the end of 2028. The question arises: could he consider joining Ferrari once his tenure with Red Bull concludes, or maybe even before that?

Key Takeaways:

  • Red Bull driver Max Verstappen commented on Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari in 2025, stating that he wouldn't rule out the possibility of making a similar switch to the Maranello outfit in the future. Verstappen's current contract with Red Bull runs until the end of 2028.
  • Hamilton's unexpected decision to leave Mercedes and join Ferrari for the 2025 season surprised the racing world. Despite his strong ties with Mercedes, there was a widespread belief that Hamilton would conclude his Formula 1 journey with the Brackley-based team.
  • Verstappen mentioned that while he is currently content with Red Bull, he didn't rule out a move to Ferrari in the future, acknowledging the unpredictability of life and experiences.

In a surprising move earlier this month, Lewis Hamilton announced his departure from Mercedes to join Ferrari in the 2025 season, shocking both the world and his current team. Despite his deep connections with Mercedes, including team boss Toto Wolff, many believed Hamilton would end his Formula 1 journey with the Brackley-based team.

Maybe two winless seasons since the inception of the ground effect era in F1 could have been one of the contributing factors to his decision, apart from the fact that it was his childhood dream to race for Ferrari one day.

Speaking to the media ahead of Red Bull's launch of the 2024 RB20, Verstappen revealed that Hamilton's shift to Ferrari would look cool. He said:

“At the end of the day, if someone wants to drive for Ferrari, especially someone like Lewis who has already achieved so much, if that’s his dream and goal... Again, we don’t know the talks they’ve had, at Mercedes, at Ferrari, what has been promised, what they think is coming.

“You can’t give an honest assessment from our side as to why you make that decision. You know, if he is happy with that move, I think it will look cool and of course I hope for them it will be a success but you don’t know.”

However, Verstappen mentioned that he wasn't denying a move to Ferrari in the future, though it isn't on his mind at this point. He added:

“I don’t want to sound, like, disrespectful or whatever because I have a lot of respect for the brand Ferrari, but I’m happy where I’m at.

“I’m comfortable in the environment I’m in so it’s not something I’m looking to change or whatever but again, in my life, you always want to experience so never say never but, for me now, it’s not even in my head.”
