Alfa Romeo driver Zhou Guanyu claims he is confident about agreeing a contract extension with the Swiss-based team for the 2024 season.

The Chinese driver's current contract with the team is due to expire at the end of 2023 and there have currently been no announcements confirming an extension.

During an interview ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, Guanyu explained to the media that he has already entered discussions with Alfa Romeo:

“I mean it’s been going on, us talking together, before the summer shutdown and also we are still discussing together with the team.

“As I say, happy place to be, right now, and also knowing the team, moving forward in the future, heading off to a works team [Audi], so it’s good for us and for myself, I’m just trying to do the maximum I can here on the track and the rest is up to time, up to more further detailed discussion together – but I think, let’s say, this time last year I was a lot more nervous than I am now.

“So, hopefully I’m able to set everything down and have a good future ahead.”

There have been rumours of Alfa Romeo not being able to afford the driver for 2024 as they are parting ways with Sauber. However, none of this has been confirmed by either the team or driver at the moment.

Guanyu is not the only driver waiting to extend a contract for 2024. Yuki Tsunoda, Daniel Ricciardo, and Logan Sargeant all have contracts due to expire at the end of the current season.
