New Williams team principal James Vowles has explained what happened in the Australian Grand Prix to cause Alex Albon to crash and therefore retire from the race. Fans have been loving the insight into what happened, praising the team for giving information to viewers that they would usually not get.

The British team posted:

"What happened in the build-up to Alex's crash in Aus?

"James Vowles explains all. Watch the full Vowles Verdict from Australia at williamsf1.com"

Vowles explained that Albon had gone into Turn 6 slower than he had done in the previous lap but the rear of the car still came round immediately which unfortunately meant there was nothing Albon could do to save it. The team chief went on to explain in more detail the background of the incident.

One fan commented:

"Wow I have never seen such great explanation for an incident in f1 ever. I'm big fan of this new venture of James Vowels and the "new" team"

Another fan who loved the insight, responded:

"Loved this, very informative"

Someone else hoped we wouldn't need to see one of the crash analysis videos again, but again praised the team for their new approach. They wrote:

"This is brilliant analysis that fans otherwise don't get. Hopefully you don't have to do another one like this but it's still great to watch and learn from."

Fans have been able to see more of the behind the scenes of the sport since the introduction of Netflix's Drive to Survive, albeit a dramatised version of the events. However, teams have rarely given detail like this to help understand the ins and outs of crashes.

Another impressed fan commented:

"Great content. The intricacies of F1 are what make it interesting. Thanks for cracking the door open."
