Brody Cress has taken the early lead in Saddle Bronc as the race for the National Finals Rodeo for 2024 steams toward the Thanksgiving holiday.

Cress, from Hillsdale, Wyo., will be at the NFR for the 2023 season next month, as he finished 12th in the overall standings. That will mark his seventh straight trip to the NFR, where he’s won three average titles in 2017, 2019 and 2021.

He’s in the lead largely due to the more than $17,000 he picked up at October’s Brad Gjermundson Extreme Broncs in New Town, N.D. He won one round on Freckled Night and took the title on the three-ride average.

His last event was at Cook Rodeo Days in Lubbock on Nov. 3-4.

Qwinton Stroh is second and he had a similar performance at the Gjermundson Extreme Broncs, where he won a round on Shady Jacket and shared the three-round average top spot with Cress.

Logan Cook is third and has been busy, as he competed at both Gjermundson and at the Texas Circuit Finals. He won two rounds and finished second in the average at the Texas Circuit Finals, plus picked up another win on Stockyards Babe at the Heart O’Texas Fair and Rodeo.

Parker Kempfer is fourth. He’s coming off a clean sweep at the Southeastern Circuit Finals, where he won or shared the lead in all three rounds and won the average title.

Ryder Wright rounded out the Top 5. The two-time world champion will participate in his eighth NFR next month. He won a round at Gjermundson and is coming off a win at Las Vegas Days last weekend.
