Jaylen Brown Pays Tribute to Bill Russell in Celtics Win
Before the season started, the NBA lost one of its most important figures with the passing of Bill Russell. The league has done a tremendous job of honoring Russell's legacy, as has his old team.
On Saturday afternoon, the Boston Celtics hosted the Atlanta Hawks in Game One of the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Jaylen Brown led the Celtics to victory with 29 points and paid tribute to Russell in the process.
Brown is a sneaker free agent but has mostly worn Nike sneakers from the signature line of Kobe Bryant. Before the highly anticipated playoff matchup, Brown took the court in a pair of beautiful sneakers customized down to the last detail.
Nike Kobe 5 Protro
Brown wore the Nike Kobe 5 Protro 'Chaos,' which was released on January 3, 2019, for $175. According to StockX, the shoes now have an average resale price of $724. It is only fitting that Brown wear shoes from the Nike Kobe line to honor Russell.
The artist responsible for the work replicated a picture of Brown and Russell on the lateral side panel with flowers on the medial side panel. Additionally, Russell's number six jersey number appears on the toe box of both shoes.
Boston hosts Atlanta for Game Two of the series on Tuesday night. However, Brown and the Celtics have their eyes on a much bigger prize. Winning another Larry O'Brien Trophy in the season after Russell's passing would mean so much to the city, team, and league.
