Nike Dubs Victor Wembanyama "The Extraterrestrial"
San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama has not yet stepped foot on the court of a preseason NBA game. However, the 7'5" center is already making his presence felt in the sneaker industry.
On Sunday afternoon, Nike began rolling out a new marketing campaign for Wembanyama. In a series of Instagram stories and social media posts, Nike dubbed Wembanyama as "The Extraterrestrial."
In an era when most nicknames are lacking, Wembanyama's new moniker is undeniably cool. So is the Nike Tech Fleece campaign showcasing the generational talent. Nike captioned its Instagram post by asking fans, "Who knew aliens wore techxedos [sic]? The Extraterrestrial has landed in #NikeTech."
It is still way too early for the vast majority of American athletes to wear Nike tech gear. However, fans wanting to get a headstart on building their winter wardrobes can check out the new selection of tech gear on the Nike website.
Wembanyama does not have a signature sneaker yet. However, a signature sneaker line is surely in the works for the budding phenom. Wembanyama has exclusively worn a custom pair of Size 20.5 Nike Zoom G.T. Run basketball shoes on the court. Off the court, he named one of Drake's sneakers as his favorite for lifestyle use.
The 2023-24 NBA preseason does not start for another six weeks, but we are already excited to follow Wembanyama's rookie campaign. There is no doubt that Nike has big plans for "The Extraterrestrial" during his debut season. Stay locked into FanNation Kicks for all your sneaker news.
