Aaron Ramsdale Returns To Work After Missing Arsenal's Draw At Chelsea Amid Increasing Calls For David Raya To Be Dropped
Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was back at work on Monday morning after being given the weekend off following the birth of his first son.
Ramsdale started all 38 of Arsenal's Premier League games last season and was voted into the EPL's Team of the Year.
However, he has since lost his status as the club's no.1 stopper after manager Mikel Arteta signed Spanish keeper David Raya on loan from Brentford in August.
Ramsdale was not at Stamford Bridge on Saturday for family reasons but it is unlikely that he would have played anyway.
Raya has started in seven of Arsenal's last eight matches, with Ramsdale's only appearance during that sequence coming in a 1-0 win over Brentford in the EFL Cup.
However, many Gunners fans are calling for Ramsdale to be recalled to the starting XI after Raya made two major errors in a 2-2 draw with Chelsea.
Raya was caught out of position in the 48th minute at Stamford Bridge, allowing Mykhailo Mudryk to score from a mishit cross.
Moments later, Raya gave the ball away to Cole Palmer inside the penalty area but the Chelsea midfielder failed to capitalize.
Reacting to Raya's unsteady display on Saturday, beIN SPORTS anchor Richard Keys tweeted: "David Raya will end up costing Arsenal the title this season. There is no way he's an upgrade on Ramsdale."
Meanwhile, a post from famous Gunners supporter Piers Morgan read: "Remind me again why we ditched Ramsdale for Raya?"
A different Arsenal fan wrote: "Ramsdale 100% should be back now. Raya has not shown that he is the better keeper, not in the slightest".
Another joked: "Raya can look after Ramsdale's kid next week".
