Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto has experienced both the highs and lows so far in his rookie season. The rookie has been a great emergence for the Halos this season, but he has also battled through multiple injuries throughout as well.

But when he has been in the lineup, he has helped make a difference for this team. He is learning on the fly, while the Angels have been going through the motions of the season.

Over the weekend Neto experienced another potential injury, but he seemed to avoid anything major here.

“Neto had a scary moment in the ninth inning, when he fouled a ball off his leg and spent a couple minutes on the ground. He remained in the game and was hit in the leg by the next pitch.”

Per Jeff Fletcher of The OC Register

He gave an update on the situation and noted that he isn’t too worried about it going forward.

“It’s something I don’t feel right now,” Neto said. “Maybe tomorrow I feel sore. Maybe not. I’m not too concerned about it.”

Per The OC Register

With only a week left in the season, the Angels are hoping that he can stay healthy, so he can get all the reps in that he can. Since he is still so new to the major leagues, anything that he can do will be better for his long-term development.

Over 78 games played, the rookie is hitting .227 with nine home runs and 33 runs batted in.

Neto is likely the future shortstop of this team, so his learning-on-the-go approach this year should benefit him. He is gaining more perspective on what it takes to get through a long season, and leading by example as well.

He will be a key figure for this organization going forward, so this offseason will be big for him. If he can keep improving his game, it will benefit everyone in the long run.
