Angels News: Anthony Rendon One of MLB’s Biggest Disappointments, Says Writer
When third baseman Anthony Rendon signed with the Los Angeles Angels a few years ago, it was seen as a move that could potentially take them over the top. After all, he had just helped the Washington Nationals win a World Series, and he was at the top of his game.
But fast forward a few seasons, and the Rendon experiment for the Halos has been a complete flop. He hasn’t played in more than 58 games in a season, and his injuries have hurt the team on the field. His attitude has also been called into question, with multiple media members calling him out this season.
It has been a tough year for both Rendon and the Angels. Once again, he will have missed the majority of the season, and the Angels will be missing the playoffs.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report put together a list of the most disappointing teams and players from this current MLB season, and Rendon made the list.
“Anthony Rendon couldn't even make it through Opening Day before laying the groundwork for yet another disastrous campaign with the Angels. After going hitless with two strikeouts in the season opener, he grabbed an Oakland fan by the shirt, exchanged some words and took a swipe at him, resulting in a five-game suspension that he didn't even bother to appeal.”

Rendon is still on the Angels books for three more years at $38 million a season. That is quite a lot of money for a guy who hardly takes the field. It has hurt the Angels ability to put together a team, but they have shown no interest in releasing him because the money would still count against their books.
“The Angels have neither said nor done anything to suggest they are thinking about releasing the third baseman who is owed $115.7 million over the next three years, but frustrated fans and bloggers sure have been kicking the idea around in recent weeks.”

The Halos may be starting fresh this winter in a lot of ways, so it could make sense to cut ties with him altogether. It may be time for the Angels to admit the mistake of signing Rendon and cut him. Even if they are still playing him, it wouldn’t cause any issues in the locker room.
This entire situation will be very interesting to monitor going forward. The Angels have a ton of questions to answer this offseason, including about Rendon.
