Angels News: Nolan Schanuel to be Reevaluated After Fouling Ball Off Knee
Nolan Schanuel continued his on-base streak to begin his career after hitting a hard double to the right field corner.
His streak of 27 games is now 4th-most all time to begin a career.
However, before hitting that double he fouled a ball off his knee and later was pulled in the game.
As of now, it is unclear if Schanuel will miss any time but it would be an unfortunate way for the streak to come to an end for the young rookie.
Schanuel shocked the baseball world when he was called up just six weeks after he was drafted in the first round of the MLB Draft.
Since being called up to the Angels roster Schanuel has hit .284 with a .750 OPS all while striking out the same amount he walks, both at 18.
Schanuel earned a first-round draft grade after hitting an absurd .447 average with a 1.483 OPS in his last season with the Florida Atlantic Owls. In 59 games Schanuel walked 71 times and only struck out 14 times.
In the minor leagues, Schanuel continued his dominance by hitting .333 with a .940 OPS in 17 games with the Rocket City Trash Pandas and walking almost double the amount he struck out, at 16 and nine, respectively.
Angel fans have had a rough season filled with injuries to top players like Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout but one thing that has been a bright spot at the end of this season has been Schanuel as they have gotten to watch him carve out a future in the MLB right before their eyes.
Hopefully, Schanuel is able to keep playing and gain this valuable experience as he is joining a young core of Logan O'Hoppe and Zach Neto in leading the youth movement for the Halos in 2024.
