Coming off a sweep at the hands of the San Diego Padres, the Angels now find themselves in a tough position. They have dropped 11 of 15 games and have fallen out of a potential wild card playoff position. The team was on a roll just a short few weeks ago and now is staring at the harsh reality of another lost season.

Not only have they dropped games but their three best players have all gotten hurt as well. It's a rough combination to deal with but the team hasn't lose hope. They still believe that their best baseball is ahead of them and it all starts with having the next man up mentality.

“We’re just grinding through this tough time,” Angels starter Patrick Sandoval said after a 5-3 loss Wednesday that capped the Padres’ three-game sweep. “Bunch of injuries, obviously. And ‘next man up,’ but it’s tough.”

This seems to be the sentiment throughout the organization as they go through this trying time. Their manager Phil Nevin continues to lead the charge of positivity and he believes that despite all the odds stacked against them, they are about to go on a run of wins.

“I feel good about the players we have. I love the room,” Angels manager Phil Nevin said. “Every team goes on a run. And we’re going to have a run in front of us. Any team, they always have a defining moment. Teams do. You talk about winning a World Series or getting to the playoffs, everyone talks about a defining moment. This is maybe ours, I don’t know.”

Even with the positivity, the Angels will need to execute on the field. But as the trade deadline quickly approaches, the Angels do have some decisions to make. Will they be buyers and go all-in? Or do they go down the usual route and become sellers?

However, this season feels different due to the impending free agency of one Shohei Ohtani. The Angels must decide over the next few weeks how to proceed, even if that means trading their two-way superstar.

It's an unfortunate situation to be in for any team but the Angels have just been plain unlucky at times. Fortunately for them, the All-Star break is next week and maybe the extra rest is exactly what they need.
