The entire world has been able to watch Shohei Ohtani blossom into one of the MLB's most cherished young stars over these past few years. He took him MVP in the 2021 season and would've went back-to-back if not for the terrific play of the New York Yankee's Aaron Judge. The league has never really seen a talent like Ohtani that dominates when he steps up to the plate and the pitching mound.

It should come as no surprise to anyone that the Angels' superstar has continued to shine under the brightest lights during the World Baseball Classic. He has helped Japan completely embarrass their opponents this past week and was named MVP of his pool.

The numbers are pretty ridiculous when you look at them. Japan is currently 4-0 and have scored 38 runs while only giving up 8 in that process. When Ohtani took the mound against China, he only allowed one hit and no scores throughout four innings. His at-bat productivity has also been outstanding as he has notched 8 RBI's and gone 6-12 in his appearances.

When fans talk about the best players in baseball right now, Ohtani is almost always in those conversations but those opposed to him always mention his lack of a postseason resume. The Angels' front office have definitely failed to put the right team around him during his tenure here but he has more than done his part.

People that do not think the 28-year-old is the real deal should certainly be tuning into the WBC right now and watch Ohtani lead Japan to a potential third title. He is fitting in seamlessly with a group that also features Munetaka Murakami and Yu Darvish. Japan doesn't have a crazy superteam like other countries but with Ohtani leading the charge, that may just be all they need.
