Angels News: Shohei Ohtani Scratched From Halos Lineup on Monday
Angels two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani has been scratched from the Halos lineup for Monday's series opener against the Seattle Mariners.
Ohtani was in the lineup batting second for the first time in over a week, however, with a little over two hours until the game, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reported that Ohtani will not be playing and will be replaced by Mike Moustakas as the DH.
Ohtani hasn't played since last Sunday as he suffered an oblique injury ahead of last Monday's game. Ohtani is already dealing with a torn UCL, so the oblique injury is just an added layer to an already beat up Ohtani.
It didn't really make much sense for Ohtani to keep playing this year considering the Halos are out of the playoff race, but we know how competitive Ohtani is, and it makes sense that he wants to keep going out there for his team.
However, Ohtani is apparently not yet good enough to play, and we'll continue to provide updates on his status when we learn more.
Here's the new Angels lineup for Monday's series opener against the Mariners.
First pitch if at 6:40 p.m. PT.
