Though he's been sidelined with another injury in addition to his already torn UCL, Shohei Ohtani won't be headed for an IL stint soon.

Due to an oblique injury, the unicorn hasn't been in the Halos lineup recently, but shouldn't be kept out for long according to his manager Phil Nevin.

Nevin said the Angels still don’t believe that Ohtani is a candidate to go on the injured list, and he could play as soon as Thursday if he feels better. When he comes in and he’s ready to play, he’ll play,” Nevin said.

Injured after taking a swing in batting practice, Ohtani hasn't been able to suit up for his team in the past few games with many speculating he would finally go on the injured list.

Further complicating things is the fact that he's already dealing with a tear in his UCL that's made a surgical procedure all but necessary to prepare for next season.

Unknown if he's ever going to play for the Halos again past this year, Ohtani's 2023 has been nothing short of spectacular even without a full body of work in a figurative and literal sense.

Surely the runaway AL MVP after a season that racked up 9 WAR, Ohtani's skills on both the mound and at the plate have given fans memories to last a lifetime.

Leading the league in home runs for a majority of the season, the Japanese superstar paired his powerful bat alongside one of the best arms on the mound as he's always been.

Even as his agent assured whoever signs him will continue getting a two-way superstar for the duration of his career, it's still concerning that his massive workload led to this overexertion and a second elbow tear.

Putting his pitching career in jeopardy with another Tommy John surgery possibly on the table, Ohtani's contributions for the Halos in 2023 has still been a pleasure for fans everywhere to see.
