While the Los Angeles Angels search for their own manager this winter, it seems that one of their former skippers could end up landing a job.

MLB insider Jon Heyman of The New York Post is reporting that former Angels manager Brad Ausmus could be a legitimate candidate for the New York Mets open managerial position.

“The Mets could make it an all Ivy League leadership group. The Dartmouth man and ex-Tigers manager had an oddly quick Anaheim tenure and would like another chance.”

Per Jon Heyman of The New York Post

Ausmus was dismissed as the Angels leading man after just one season into his three-year deal, and it seems that he wants back into the game. Before he was hired by the Halos, Ausmus was one of the hottest names on the market, so when he joined this team, he was seen as a great hire.

But the chance to bring in former manager Joe Maddon was too good for owner Arte Moreno to pass on, and Ausmus was bounced. Ausmus wasn't really given a fair shot with the Angels, and he could do well with this Mets team.

Ausmus was the manager of the Detroit Tigers prior to coming to the Angels, and he helped them get to the postseason in his first season. The Tigers were swept out of the playoffs, but he showed that he could handle being a manager in the big leagues.

The baseball IQ of Ausmus is what has helped him succeed as a manager. He was one of the smartest players when he played, and that has carried over with him from his playing days.

He has been working with the Oakland Athletics in a bench role since leaving the Angels, and it has helped him learn what went wrong. Now he wants another chance to prove himself, and this could be a great opportunity for both sides if he were to be hired.
