Star outfielder Mike Trout has been a staple of the Los Angeles Angels organization since he entered the league. He has been at the top of the game for quite some time now, but despite his best efforts, the Angels haven't been able to find success on the field.

After another poor season, there has been talk for the first time that Trout could ask out this winter. It was reported that if he did ask to be moved, the Angels would oblige. But his large contract remains a potential roadblock for any deal.

MLB insider Robert Murray gave some insight into the matter on The Baseball Insiders podcast.

“So I asked about this right after the report was published. And the feeling I got was that a trade involving Mike Trout ranged from anywhere unlikely to highly, highly unlikely.”

There is also the issue of Trout's injury history. He is consistently missing time due to various injuries, and that could make things difficult for the Angels to move him.

If the Halos were to move their All-Star, they would want a haul in return. Trout is still a very good player, but there would be teams hesitant to take on his contract for the next seven years. He is owed $37.1 on the payroll each year through the 2030 season.

This season, he is hitting .263 with 18 home runs and 44 runs batted in. It's a down year for his standards, and he only has played in 82 games.

It remains to be seen if Trout returns to game action this season as he recovers, but with the Angels out of the playoff picture, it could make sense to hold him out.

This is going to be a very interesting offseason for the Halos. No matter what happens with Trout, it will likely be one that they won't forget for a long time.
