Angels Rumors: Writer Proposes Blockbuster Trade to Send Mike Trout to Dodgers for All-Star, No. 1 Prospect
Over the last few weeks, there has been more talk than ever about the Los Angeles Angels trading star outfielder Mike Trout away this offseason. While a trade is unlikely at this point, in part due to the remaining years and money on his contract, the fact that it’s a talking point means something.
The Angels will miss the postseason once again this year, extending their long playoff drought. Trout has been one of the best players in the game for quite some time, but has nothing to show for it based on team success. So many believe that there could come a time when he says enough is enough, and it could be this winter.
Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report proposed multiple trade packages for Trout if he were to be moved, with one of them sending him up the I-5 freeway to join the Los Angeles Dodgers. In the deal, Rymer has the Dodgers getting Trout, starting pitcher Patrick Sandoval and $70 million to put toward the remaining contract of Trout. In return, the Angels would get pitcher Tony Gonsolin and catching prospect Dalton Rushing.
First off, a deal with LA is very unlikely, simply because owner Arte Moreno likely wouldn’t consider it. But it could net the Angels a top prospect in Rushing, and some major salary relief.
This isn’t the worst deal, and the Halos could grant themselves some flexibility moving forward. Plus, on the LA side, Trout would help the Dodgers fill a role in the outfield alongside Mookie Betts, so it could be seen as a win-win for both sides.
“Would a team as risk-averse as the Dodgers really choose now as the time to pursue Trout? For that matter, would Dodgers-averse Angels owner Arte Moreno allow such a thing?”
Per Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report
The Dodgers remain one of the best trade partners for the Angels if they were to decide to move Trout. They could afford his contract, and give the Halos some solid compensation in return. But the parameters around a trade with LA make it very difficult to execute.
Moving on from Trout seems like it would be very hard to do, and a trade likely won’t happen. But never say never, because if he asks out, they seem open to moving him this offseason.
