Report: Toronto Blue Jays Acquire Merrifield From Kansas City Royals
The Toronto Blue Jays have reportedly acquired Whit Merrifield from the Kansas City Royals.
The Toronto Blue Jays acquired utility man Whit Merrifield in a trade with the Kansas City Royals. The Royals received two prospects — Samad Taylor and Max Castillo — in return.
Merrifield has slashed .240/.290/.352 with six home runs this season. The 33-year-old becomes a Swiss-army knife off the bench for Toronto with his ability to extend from second base to the outfield.
The righty is under contract until after the 2024 season. Merrifield is reportedly unvaccinated and he'll need to receive both doses to play the rest of Toronto's home games this season.
