Houston Astros Starter Takes Big Step in Journey Back to Mound
The Houston Astros could use some starting pitching help. Luckily, one of their regulars could be on his way back as reinforcements.
Jose Urquidy is the man in question and he threw a successful bullpen on Sunday according to the Houston Chronicle.
Urquidy's bullpen consisted of 25 pitches and his fastball sat at 88-89 mph, down from his usual 94 mph velocity. However, this is an early bullpen and velocity numbers should not be a concern.
The fact he is on the mound and throwing is a positive sign.
He is scheduled to throw two more bullpens this week and then will face live hitters. Following that, he will likely undergo multiple rehab starts, perhaps with Triple-A Sugar Land.
If everything goes as planned with no setbacks, Urquidy could be inserted back into Houston's rotation just in time for the stretch run.
