Braves Briefing: Could this hypothetical trade for Dylan Cease make sense?

A hypothetical trade was posted that would result in Atlanta adding Dylan Cease.

FanDuel, the popular sportsbook, posted a hypothetical trade on X earlier this week. The trade would include the Atlanta Braves landing Dylan Cease from the Chicago White Sox but would involve giving up several pieces. 

It looked like this:

Braves receive: 
- RHP Dylan Cease 

White Sox receive:
- RHP AJ Smith-Shawver 
- RHP Owen Murphy 
- LHP Dylan Dodd 
- SS/2B Vaughn Grissom

Braves fans on the social media platform came out in droves to attack this trade. Cease would bring a lot of instant upside in the 2024 season but giving up a lot of talented pieces to negatively impact the future doesn't seem worth it in the eyes of most Braves fans.

How long until pitchers and catchers report?

75 days. Atlanta's expected to ask pitchers and catchers to report on Monday, February 12th, in advance of their first spring training game on February 24th against the Tampa Bay Rays. An official announcement of the reporting date will come in January.
