Atlanta Braves Takeaways: Bombs Away in 8-1 win Over Rockies

The Atlanta Braves showed off their power with three 2-run homers in an 8-1 win over the Colorado Rockies on Friday night.

Travis d'Arnaud had two of those home runs, one of them landing on the moon (traveled 474 feet).

And the runs were plenty for Jared Shuster who continued his good run of starts.

Bombs away

The Atlanta Braves now lead all of baseball with 118 home runs on the season after hitting three more on Friday night.

This front office has made a concerted effort to fill the lineup with power hitters, and the results are undeniable.

They've finished top three in home runs across Major League Baseball in the last three years and figure to finish near the top again.

It's one of the many reasons this lineup is so deadly.

The lineup doesn't stop

Something else that makes this lineup so deadly is that it's truly 1-9 on any given night.

Ronald Acuna Jr., Ozzie Albies, Austin Riley, and Matt Olson combined for one hit on Friday night, and the team still scored eight runs.

You take out the best catcher in baseball who has a .919 OPS -- almost 100 points higher than the next qualified catcher -- and you plug in a "back-up" catcher who goes deep twice, drives in four runs, and has an OPS over .800 himself.

Now that Michael Harris II is starting to turn things around, you can make a case that it's the best, and deepest, lineup in baseball.

Jared Shuster with another solid outing

Since coming back up on May 16, Shuster has gone at least five innings in all six starts and he's given up three earned or less in all of them.

It's been a nice turnaround from the beginning of the season and much-needed for a rotation that is banged up and running out of options.

The next step for Shuster is to learn how to get through the batting order a third time.

Several times now he's been cruising through five innings with a low pitch count and then he runs into a wall in that sixth inning.

The Braves have now won four in a row and will look to keep that streak going and clinch the four-game series over the Rockies on Saturday with Bryce Elder taking the mound. First pitch it scheduled for 4:10 ET. The game broadcast, with Voice of the Braves Brandon Gaudin, is available inside Braves Country on Bally Sports Southeast and is available on MLB.TV outside of the broadcast area. The radio call, with Ben Ingram, is available locally on 680 AM/93.7 FM The Fan or outside the Atlanta market on the Atlanta Braves Radio Network or MLB.com.
