Rumored Cardinals Target Reportedly Expected To Be Traded; Could Move Be Coming Soon?
The St. Louis Cardinals already have been one of the most busy teams in baseball this offseason but still have work to do.
St. Louis landed starting pitchers Lance Lynn and Kyle Gibson already in free agency but still needs to land a top-of-the-rotation hurler. There still are plenty available in free agency but the trade market might end up being the way to go for St. Louis.
One player who has been linked to the Cardinals on multiple occasions at this point is Tampa Bay Rays hurler Tyler Glasnow. At this point, it is much more likely he will be traded this offseason than remaining in Tampa Bay, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.
"The trade market is hot, with big names at least in play. Here we’ll predict the trade chances for eight stars (from most likely to be dealt to least likely)," Heyman said. "Tyler Glasnow, Rays (starting pitcher): The $25M price tag made him a trade target the day it was signed. He’s an ace, at least when healthy. Odds to be traded: 70 percent."
It sounds like Glasnow will be on the move this offseason and the Cardinals certainly should get involved in the sweepstakes. St. Louis has the prospect capital needed to get a deal done and needs someone like Glasnow. He has dealt with injuries throughout his career but when he's been healthy he's been one of the top starters in the American League. Plus, he'll likely be cheaper than someone like Orix Buffaloes phenom Yoshinobu Yamamoto and San Diego Padres star Blake Snell. The Cardinals still should pursue stars like Yamamoto or Snell, but if they get priced out they should turn their focus to Glasnow.
