Stroman Struggles as Chicago Cubs Drop Series to Dodgers
The Chicago Cubs squandered an early lead in a 7-3 loss on Sunday against Los Angeles Dodgers after jumping up 2-0 in the first inning.
Marcus Stroman struggled on the mound for the first time this season as the Cubs now sit 12-9 on the 2023 MLB season. Despite recording his 1,000th career strikeout, a memorable milestone, Stroman was tagged for five earned runs in 5.0 innings pitched.
It was by far his most disappointing start to the young season. But it was also the toughest test he had faced yet in a strong Dodgers lineup.
Chicago has been on an encouraging run, but Los Angeles proved too much this weekend as they took three of a four-game series.
Offensively, Cody Bellinger stayed hot recording an RBI-double bringing his season batting average to .300. Seiya Suzuki also notched an RBI-single.
The best swing of the game came off a Yan Gomes solo shot in the fifth inning off of Clayton Kershaw.
Chicago will try and get back on track after an off day on Monday. They will face the San Diego Padres for a three game series at Wrigley Field that begins on Tuesday.
Justin Steele (3-0, 1.44 ERA) will take the mound on Tuesday for a 6:40 p.m. CT start. He will face Blake Snell of the Padres.
