Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Puts Blame on Himself Following Another Postseason Collapse

Another season cut short for LA...
In this story:

The Dodgers overcame obstacle after obstacle this season on their way to another 100-win season. But they couldn’t overcome the obstacle of facing the 84-win Arizona Diamondbacks in the NLDS, and they put together one of the worst postseasons for this organization in a while.

LA was swept by a division rival, and their season was cut short yet again. It’s the third time in five seasons that the Dodgers have failed to get out of the NLDS, and now they enter into the offseason with a ton of questions.

Manager Dave Roberts took the blame for this series loss, and even admitted that he needs to do a better job of getting the guys ready for the postseason.

“It doesn’t matter if it was a seven-game series, we lost the first three games. For me, I’ve got to do a better job of figuring out a way to get our guys prepared for the postseason. I’ll own that. I think we’ve got great players. I’ve got to figure out a way to get these guys prepared for whatever format, whatever series.”

While many will point to Roberts as the problem, he was far from it this season. The offense went completely cold over the three-game series, and you can’t win when you can’t hit.

Both Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman shrunk in the biggest moments, and LA couldn’t muster anything up. They had chances to take over games but failed to seize the opportunity in front of them.

It’s another year of regular-season success with nothing to show for it. Something needs to change this offseason to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

“Yeah, the regular season, I think we do a great job," Roberts said. "But the last couple of postseasons it just hasn’t gone well for us and so I’ve got to figure it out.”

LA will now take the next few weeks to go over what happened, and assess everything. This will be a big offseason for this club, and they need to make sure they get things right.

This consistent yearly underperformance from LA come playoff time is now a pattern, and LA needs to find something to change it.
