Dodgers News: Max Muncy’s Thoughts on Postseason Aren’t the Most Inspiring

Interesting choice of words to say the least...
In this story:

The Dodgers find themselves on the brink of elimination after two games of their postseason series with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Just when you thought LA couldn't do any worse than last season, they are on the cusp of being swept by a team 16 games behind them in the NL West.

Obviously, anyone can win it all once the dance starts, especially in baseball. We see it all the time where a team that gets hot cruises to the World Series, and sometimes ends up winning the title.

Infielder Max Muncy alluded to this prior to the start of Game 2, but his words don't leave much confidence, to say the least.

“The best team on paper doesn’t win in this game. Throughout the course of a year, that might be the case. But in the playoffs, it’s the team that plays the best and the team that gets the hottest and the team that executes their game plan the best. That’s one of the wonderful things about the postseason."

It's a little interesting to hear from Muncy, even if it's the truth. The baseball playoffs are essentially a crapshoot, but you typically don't see players actively talking about it.

Muncy referenced the 2018 version of the Dodgers to help his argument.

“I think back to 2018, for us, we were clearly not the best team in that playoff, yet we made it to the World Series because we executed what we needed to do. And every year that’s what you see. The teams that are winning are the teams that get hot. They have guys get big hits in the right moments, and it’s not always the best players that are getting those hits. That’s the beauty of the postseason. It’s also the beauty of this game in general.”

While the Diamondbacks weren't the better team during the regular season, they have played two games more effectively than LA. They now head home with a chance to eliminate their division rivals, and that isn't something to take lightly for them.

The last time these two teams played in the postseason, LA swept Arizona, so they'd love nothing more than to return the favor. The Dodgers are going to need to put together their best game of the season if they want any chance to save their season.

Veteran Lance Lynn will be getting the start, and the fate of their season is in his hands. And of course, the offense needs to show up as well, otherwise, they may as well kiss the year goodbye.
