Dodgers Rumors: Writer Proposes Blockbuster Trade to Get Mets Cy Young Winner in LA
With the MLB trade deadline under a week away, the Los Angeles Dodgers have some work to do. They need to address their pitching staff badly, both in the rotation and bullpen
The team has upgraded their offense in the two deals that saw them land Kiké Hernandez from the Boston Red Sox and Amed Rosario from the Cleveland Guardians, but even with that, the team has said they'll continue looking for more upgrades. They want to be aggressive during this deadline, and that could see them making a splash type of move.
One writer sees the New York Mets as the perfect trade partners as they could help solve multiple issues for the Dodgers. Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report listed landing spots for Mets pitcher Justin Verlander and had LA as the second-best spot.
“If the Dodgers instead pursue Verlander, it wouldn't be for the first time. He wasn't merely on their radar this past offseason. They went so far as to actually meet with him, and at the time it felt like a perfect fit”
Per Bleacher Report
LA could bring the veteran to town to add to their rotation. He could provide them with a solid pitcher, despite the down season that he is having. Verlander just won the American League Cy Young Award last season, so the stuff could still be there for him.
Rymer proposed the following deal between the teams.
“
Dodgers get
RHP Justin Verlander, OF Tommy Pham and $28 Million,
Mets get
RHP Nick Frasso and RHP Gavin Stone”
Per Bleacher Report
This could entice the Dodgers to deal with the Mets as they would be getting help in their rotation, a right-handed bat in Pham and money to put towards the heavy contract of Verlander.
Verlander hasn’t looked like himself this season, posting an ERA of 3.24. Although, he has looked much better of late, only allowing more than two runs once in his last six starts. However, even with this, LA should pass.
This would be the splash move that many are hoping the Dodgers make, but I just don’t see it. They want to preserve their cap space entirely to make an all-out aggressive run at Shohei Ohtani this winter.
Verlander is owed $43.3 million next season, and that could prove costly in the Ohtani sweepstakes. The team is better off letting the Mets deal with their poor free agent signing and look elsewhere for help this deadline.
