The Dodgers have been looking all over the league to upgrade their starting pitching this offseason after the disastrous season their rotation just put together. Somehow LA managed to win 100 games, but now they plan to be aggressive in heavily upgrading their staff.

The team will be looking at both the free agent market and via trade for help, with the idea of a trade potentially more likely, as LA has been hesitant in recent years to hand out large contracts to free-agent pitchers.

One name that has been linked with the team for some time now is Milwaukee Brewers starter Corbin Burnes. Burnes is one of the better pitchers in the game today, and the Brewers have reportedly been open for business this offseason.

However, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal poured some cold water over the thought that Burnes could be traded this winter. He insisted that Milwaukee may keep Burnes through the offseason to try competing next year while appearing on the Foul Territory show.

“Earlier in the offseason I would have put Burnes at the top of that list," Rosenthal said in terms of who's the most likely pitching trade candidate. "I’m not so sure now, I’m hearing things out of Milwaukee basically saying 'You know what we can compete with Burnes.'”

If the Brewers do intend on keeping Burnes this offseason, they run the risk of losing him next offseason when he hits free agency.

Burnes is unlikely to stay in Milwaukee long-term, so the Brewers would be better suited moving him now.

Assuming Burnes is no longer an option, though, LA will pivot to their other plans this offseason. They have plenty of avenues to look at and the offseason is just getting started.
