The Cleveland Guardians have another interleague matchup this week which fans should get used to with the new schedule for 2023. They just dropped their series with the Miami Marlins but have a chance to get back on track against the Colorado Rockies.

The Rockies are off to a rocky start to the season (Pun intended. It was too good to pass up). They have a record of just 6-17 and have looked like a bottom-five team in MLB. Still, they have some solid Major League talent on their roster.

One of their star players is Kris Bryant, who Cleveland fans will never forget for all the wrong reasons. Charlie Blackmon is their main veteran and has been about as consistent as they come on offense. Another name to watch for in their lineup is C.J. Cron who has made his way to the top of baseball headlines for his impressive power.

It really comes down to Colorado's lack of pitching. They have a team ERA of 5.57 which is the highest in the National League and second highest in all of baseball. Cleveland's offense has really struggled over the last week so playing a team with weaker pitching could help them get back in a groove.

Someone who could really take advantage of this is Josh Bell who's been incredible the past two weeks after starting slow. The slugger is batting .366 with eight doubles and two home runs in the last 11 games.

Here's what the pitching matchups look like heading into the series:

  • Monday - RHP Cal Quantrill (4.15) Vs. LHP Austin Gomber (12.12)
  • Tuesday - RHP Peyton Battenfield (1.69) Vs. RHP Ryan Feltner (6.16)
  • Wednesday - TBD (Xzavion Curry)* Vs. Noah Davis (0.93)

*The plan is to have Curry start on Wednesday if he isn't needed out of the bullpen on Monday or Tuesday.

Cleveland is just 4-6 in their last 10 games, but so is the AL Central-leading Minnesota Twins. The Guardians have a weaker opponent this week while the Twins play the New York Yankees. This is a great opportunity for Cleveland to put themselves back in first place in the division if they can capitalize.
