The Cleveland Guardians made a very significant trade on Wednesday night which sent Amed Rosario to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard.

This was a trade that was specifically made in order to open up playing time for Tyler Freeman and Gabriel Arias at shortstop while also increasing the pitching depth at the Major League level.

President of Baseball Operations Chris Antonetti recapped the rationale behind the trade after it was made official by the club.

Watch what he had to say here:

Antonetti made sure to thank Rosario for everything he did on the field, in the dugout, and in the community during his time in Cleveland. He gained a reputation as being a terrific teammate and leader among his peers which is invaluable to have in a clubhouse.

However, in the end, this trade allows the Guardians to get a glimpse at what the future holds while helping out the rotation in the short term.
