With the MLB Trade deadline is under a week away, the Cleveland Guardians just dealt a player that was the centerpiece of a trade a couple of years ago.

Cleveland and the Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly agreed to a deal that would send shortstop Amed Rosario to LA, per ESPN's Jeff Passan. The Guardians' return in the trade will be SP Noah Syndergaard. The deal is pending a physical.

Rosario was a part of the blockbuster deal that sent former Clevelander Francisco Lindor to the New York Mets. He's largely been Cleveland's shortstop for the last two and a half seasons.

Rosario has always been a solid offensive shortstop. He owns a slash line of .273/.308/.369 during his seven-year career with both the Mets and Guardians. He led Cleveland in total base hits during the 2022 campaign. However, his defensive miscues were highlighted this season as he is currently in the first percentile in OAA and 35th percentile in arm strength.

Trading Rosario will open up more playing time for Gabriel Arias and Tyler Freeman. It's also possible that the organization could finally opt to give Brayan Rocchio a shot at playing shortstop every day after he's largely been stuck in Triple-A Columbus. Maybe they'll slide Andres Gimenez over to shortstop and play one of those other three at second base.

The next move the Guardians make will clarify which route they decide to take with the now-open position.
