WATCH: Bo Naylor Has First Career Multi-Home Run Game
Bo Naylor gained a reputation as a power-hitting catcher as he climbed through the Cleveland Guardians organization. He hit 13 homers in the minors this season before getting the call-up to be Cleveland's primary catcher but has struggled to find some consistency in the batter's box.
He'd hit just two home runs coming into the series against the Kansas City Royals but doubled that total in the second game of the series.
Bo's first homer of the night came in the third inning. He rocked a fastball from Royals pitcher Zack Greinke and hit no doubt about it moon shot over the right-center wall. The ball traveled an estimated 430 feet according to Baseball Savant and gave the Guardians an early lead.
The next home run from Naylor couldn't have come at a more crucial time for Cleveland. The Royals had just tied up the game but Will Brennan responded with an RBI single and put the Guardians back up by one. However, the feeling was that Kansas City was getting comfortable against Aaron Civale.
Bo made a comeback for the Royals a little more difficult as he hit his second home run of the game. This gave the Guardians a three-run lead and a cushion for Civale when he went back on the mound.
Naylor has been hitting toward the bottom of the lineup since joining the Big League club, but something tells me that's going to change soon. The last time a Cleveland nine hitter had a multi-home run game was back on August 13, 2021. That player was none other than fan favorite Ernie Clement.
Hopefully, this display of power from Bo can be exactly what he needs to find some consistency in his swing.
