Guardians Drop Fourth Straight Series After Losing Final Two Games To Red Sox
The Cleveland Guardians got off to a great start against the Boston Red Sox. Cleveland took the series opener from the home team on Friday night behind a vintage start from Shane Bieber and an offense that finally scored some runs.
The Guardians put themselves in a great position to win the series after a 5-2 victory, but they weren't able to seal the deal in the final two games.
Zach Plesac started in game two and quickly gave up five runs forcing Terry Francona to go to his bullpen. Cleveland clawed their way back into the game and tied it up sending it to extra innings. However, Emmanuel Clase uncharacteristically struggled and the Red Sox walked it off, 8-7.
That brings us to the series finale. The Guardians had Logan Allen on the mound who pitched another gem in just his second Major League start. He struck out eight batters and allowed two runs.
However, Allen didn't get any run support in this one. The Guardians were held to just one run on four hits the entire game while Boston teed off against Nick Sandlin and Peyton Battenfield to extend their lead once Allen was taken out. This finished in a 7-1 late-game route for the Red Sox.
Tito acknowledged the offense's struggles against Chris Sale after the game. Watch his presser here:
The Guardians have now lost four straight series. The Tigers, Marlins, Rockies, and Red Sox have all gotten the best of Cleveland and their lack of offense and inconsistent pitching.
The cold and damp April weather can't be used as an excuse for the Guardians because the opposition has had no trouble producing runs in this same weather.
Cleveland is starting to figure out the starting rotation with Allen and now Tanner Bibee getting the call-up, so the attention now turns to the offense. It may be time to make some changes to the lineup to get the Guardians bats going once again.
