Guardians Manager Candidate Stephen Vogt Set For Second Interview
As reported Monday by ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan, Seattle Mariners bullpen and quality control coach Stephen Vogt, “is emerging as a serious candidate for the Cleveland Guardians managerial job.”
This seriousness will now result in a second interview for Vogt with Cleveland.
According to The Associated Press’s Tom Withers, “Vogt is scheduled to have his second interview with the Cleveland Guardians to be their manager.”
Per Withers, the 38-year-old Vogt first had an interview with the Guardians last week. His second interview is scheduled to take place Tuesday at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
“After speaking with Vogt last week, the Guardians want to get to know him better, perhaps a sign that he’s a frontrunner for the job.” Withers wrote.
Vogt was also a candidate for the San Francisco Giants manager position, having interviewed with them as well. However, San Francisco has reportedly hired former Seattle, Arizona Diamondbacks, Oakland Athletics and San Diego Padres manager Bob Melvin to become their next manager.
While Vogt could possibly be a favorite for Cleveland’s manager position, there are now two potentially additional managerial openings for the Guardians to compete against.
When San Francisco makes Melvin’s hire official, San Diego will be without a manager. The other would be for the Houston Astros, who just lost Game Seven of the ALCS Monday night. Future Hall-of-Fame manager Dusty Baker reportedly may be stepping down as Houston’s skipper.
Based on this latest report of Vogt’s second Cleveland interview, along with the team’s consideration of a few additional managerial candidates, it appears that the Guardians’ search for their new manager is ramping up.
