Guardians Shake Up Lineup Ahead Of Potential Series Clincher Against Yankees
The Cleveland Guardians are coming off of a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the New York Yankees on Monday night to take an early series lead. They have the opportunity to clinch the three-game set on Tuesday evening if they come away with a victory.
However, the lineup will look very different from what fans have grown to expect from the Guardians in the past few years.
This is the order that Cleveland is rolling with in game two:
The first immediate big change is who is hitting second in the order.
Andres Gimenez gets the nod behind Steven Kwan after he's started off the season starting on all cylinders. Gimenez currently has a batting average of .318 and five RBI through the first 11 games of the season. Gimenez simply needs to get more at-bats and he'll get that in the two hole.
Amed Rosario, the one who usually hits second, gets the day off as Gabriel Arias will start at shortstop at hit ninth.
The next change is who will be manning center field. Myles Straw is another Guardian who will get some rest and will be replaced by Will Brennan in center. Brennan, who has been putting up fantastic at-bats over the last few days, will bat sixth in the lineup.
We'll see if this offensive-minded lineup can take it to Gerrit Cole who will be New York's starting pitcher on Tuesday night.
