Will Brennan Making The Most Of Every Opportunity With The Guardians
Will Brennan knew when he made the Cleveland Guardians roster team out of Spring Training that he wouldn't be playing every day. They have a crowded outfield and it was going to be tough to find him playing time.
But that doesn't mean Brennan doesn't have a role on this team. Terry Francona made that pretty clear when he opted to carry three catchers, paving the way for Brennan and Gabriel Arias to get pinch-hit opportunities.
Combine that with a few appearances in right field this season, and Brennan has already received a decent amount of at-bats. He's not wasting any of those plate appearances either.
The best example of this is what Brennan did against the Seattle Mariners in the series finale on Sunday afternoon.
Cleveland's bats went cold and couldn't buy a hit through the first nine innings. Then with two outs and two runners on base in the third inning, Brennan smoked a ball that ended up being a game-tying double.
There's a good chance Brennan would've been rounding the bases celebrating a walk-off home run if this hit came a month or two later when the humidity is higher. But if it was a homer, we wouldn't have gotten to see his second game-tying hit in extra innings.
Brennan will quickly see his playing time increase if he keeps up his offensive production. He's currently hitting .250 over 16 at-bats with four RBI and an OPS of .563.
Credit to Brennan for not complaining about not getting playing time and embracing the role he's been given. That's the sign of a true Big Leaguer who just wants to help his team win.
This isn't going unnoticed either. This is what Tito had to say following the game:
"He's had some tough at-bats. For a young kid, he's coming in facing closers, not playing every day like he's used to and just he's always ready."
Brennan is doing everything that he's asked to do which is helping the Guardians start the season off strong.
