Guardians Slide In MLB.com's Latest Power Rankings
Last week for the Cleveland Guardians was a rough one.
They got their first taste of the 2023 American League Central when they went to Detroit to take on the Tigers. The series opener was postponed due to weather and the Guardians then dropped the series and Wednesday's doubleheader while scoring just three runs in the first game. Cleveland was then shut out in the second game.
The Miami Marlins were up next and this series started similarly to the series up in Detroit. The opener was rained out which meant a doubleheader on Saturday. Cleveland was swept in the back-to-back as well.
The Guardians salvaged the series finale against the Marlins thanks to a fantastic debut by Logan Allen, but their record for the week sat at 2-4 against teams Cleveland has the talent to beat.
Cleveland had a tough week while teams around them ascended which meant their spot in MLB.com's power rankings fell. The Guardians dropped all the way to the 17th after coming in at 11 just over a week ago.
This is where the rest of the AL Central came in:
- Minnesota Twins - 13
- Guardians - 17
- Chicago White Sox - 23
- Detroit Tigers - 25
- Kansas City Royals - 29
Cleveland's slide is warranted looking at who is just above them. The Mariners (16), Cubs (15), and D-Backs (14) all played well last week while the Guardians struggled. Cleveland does have a good chance to get back on track this week against the Colorado Rockies.
