Terry Francona Injures Himself Preparing For Speech To Guardians Roster

Cleveland Guardians manager Terry Francona cracks his tooth as he prepped for the first address to the team.
In this story:

Terry Francona has had a history of injuries over the last few seasons as the Cleveland Guardians manager. He's even missed significant time in order to rehab from these. With all of that going on he's healthy and ready to lead the Guardians back into the playoffs in 2023.

However, I'm sure Tito never saw this injury coming.

As Francona was preparing for the first official speech of Spring Training, he elected to skip a staff dinner in order to practice. As he was eating his own-prepared meal he ended up cracking a tooth on undercooked pasta. He said:

"It was frozen at the bottom and I broke part of my tooth. At first, I didn't think I did. Then I started chewing and said, 'That tastes awful.' Not only did I swallow the tooth, I chewed it."

That sounds like an incredibly painful experience to have to go through.

I do think the story sheds light on the kind of manager that Tito is. He's a World Series-winning manager, he's won three Manager Of The Year awards including in 2022, and will undoubtedly be in the Hall of Fame once his coaching days are over.

With all of that, he still gets nervous to address his players and setting a good tone and mindset heading into the new season. He truly cares about his players. After Tito gave his first remarks he said, "I don't want to just talk. Everybody has meetings. I want to help."
