The Next Wave Of Guardians Pitching Is Here
The Cleveland Franchise has long had one of the most dominant starting rotations in baseball. Developing pitching is something the organization does best.
At one point it was Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco, Trevor Bauer, Josh Tomlin, and Danny Salzar who round out the staff. As Tomlin and Salzar faded out, Mike Clevinger and Shane Bieber entered.
Soon Kluber, Bauer, and Clevinger had new homes via trade and Zach Plesac, Aaron Civale, Cal Quantrill, and Triston McKenzie emerged as franchise cornerstones. This is also the core Cleveland entered the season with.
However, as injuries and underperforming starts stacked up, the Guardians had to look to their young arms to lead the way.
Logan Allen
Logan Allen was the first pitcher to get the call-up and made his debut against the Miami Marlins on April 23. He pitched 6.0 innings giving up just one run in his first Major League start.
Since then, Allen has gone on to make 11 starts while posting an ERA of 3.68 and 58 strikeouts.
As good of a pitcher Cleveland has had, they've never had a left-handed pitcher such as Logan. He gives the team a different look in the rotation that will be valuable for years to come.
Tanner Bibee
The next man up, and perhaps the most hyped, was Tanner Bibee who debuted just three days after Allen on April 26 against the Colorado Rockies.
Bibee made just three starts at Triple-A before getting the call to The Show and he's proven he belongs. Bibee has an ERA of 4.05 over his 10 starts while also recording a WHIP of 1.31.
There's still development that needs to be made, but Bibee is right where he needs to be and he's already helping the Guardians win.
Gavin Williams
That brings us to the latest debut from Cleveland's number-one-ranked prospect, Gavin Williams.
Williams started for the Guardians on Tuesday night and had an up-and-down night. He pitched 5.2 innings and struck out four while also giving up four runs. However, all of those runs came in one inning which is one Gavin wants back.
But if you take the third inning out of the equation then you have a pitcher who allowed no hits and two walks while also having a five-pitch inning and seven-pitch inning.
Allen, Bibee, and Williams represent the next wave of Guardians pitching. Behind them are Daniel Espino and Joey Cantillo. Triston McKenzie is also the arm that could be the one to lead the way.
The future of Clevland pitching continues to be bright.
